Author Scott Riley has worked in the skilled trades industry (HVAC) for over a decade. Originally from Corunna, Michigan, he studied HVAC at Lansing Community College before beginning his career in the trades.
After becoming a father, Scott noticed there were very few children’s books that celebrated the skilled trades and the hardworking blue-collar men and women who keep the world running every day.
Inspired by the trades community and the importance of teamwork, Scott wrote Trade Heroes to help kids see skilled tradespeople as everyday heroes!
Q: Who is your favorite character in Your book and why?
A: "Ace might be my favorite — probably because I’m an HVAC tech myself! I had a lot of fun adding real HVAC details into the story and bringing that trade to life for kids."
Q: What has been your favorite job of all in the trades field?
A: "I’ve really enjoyed working as an HVAC technician at a hospital for the last 8 years. Helping patients stay comfortable and safe while they’re in the hospital is a rewarding feeling, and every day brings new challenges to solve."
Q: What would you say to kids aspiring to persue a trades career?
A: "I’d encourage kids to explore all the careers available in the skilled trades! Many offer great pay, strong benefits, job security, and the chance to work with your hands while solving real-world problems every day."
Q: Will this book ever continue or become a series?
A: "That’s definitely the plan! Trade Heroes is just getting started with Trouble in Trades Town, and I’m excited to see how the world and characters grow into future adventures."
